He was sharpening his skills in Tokyo. Japan demands respect for rituals, precision, and ingredients, and it\u2019s this heritage that goes into everything Takuma does behind the bar. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It\u2019s mesmerizing to watch him in action, with every movement done on purpose and with calculated precision. And guess what? If you\u2019re making noise (or can hear the spoon clinking on the glass as you stir), then you need to keep practicing.\u00a0If you stir and make a noise, it causes aeration, which makes the Martini lose the texture you\u2019re looking for. A Martini seems like a simple cocktail, but it requires a lot of technique and finesse, so I encourage people to keep practicing their stirring if they want to perfect their Martini-making skills.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">TM: A<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">re there any lessons from your travels that home mixologists can learn from?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>Try new spirits and flavors both in food and drinks to help grow your palate. In order to master new types of cocktails and flavors, you have to be open to trying new drinks and foods. Because of my background growing up in Japan, I do lean towards <a href=\"https:\/\/test.themixer.com\/en-us\/trends\/japanese-cocktail\/\">Japanese flavors<\/a> because it is my comfort. But I get a lot of my inspiration from new foods and cocktails that I regularly try. A twist on the Negroni that I love to make is the <a href=\"https:\/\/test.themixer.com\/en-us\/recipes\/kingston-negroni\/\">Kingston Negroni<\/a> with rum, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campari.com\/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Campari<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinzano.com\/our-products\/vermouth\/bottega-cinzano-1757-rosso\/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sweet vermouth<\/a>. My preference is to use <a href=\"https:\/\/appletonestate.com\/en\/the-selection\/8-yo-reserve\/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Appleton Estate 8-year Jamaican rum<\/a>, or if you want to be a little fancier, they have vintage special editions\u2014I like the<a href=\"https:\/\/appletonestate.com\/en\/the-selection\/21-yo-nassau-valley-casks\/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 20-year aged<\/a>. Another favorite to make at home that can be very easy is the Margarita. My twist is to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayendatequila.com\/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayenda Reposado<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandmarnier.com\/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grand Marnier<\/a> instead of triple sec, and using Meyer lemon instead of the traditional lime.
