How do you make drinks blue without blue curaçao?

If you want to make drinks blue without using blue curaçao, there are several alternative methods. Here are a few fun options to try out at home:

  • Blue curaçao syrup. Typically, blue cocktails contain blue curaçao liqueur, a vibrant blue-coloured liqueur with alcohol content that is often used to add both color and flavour. The syrup, on the other hand, is perfect for blue non-alcoholic curaçao drinks, as it does not contain any alcohol. So, when a recipe calls for blue curaçao liqueur, use syrup instead.
  • Blue raspberry syrup or liqueur. Another blue syrup for non-alcoholic drinks is blue raspberry-flavoured syrup, which can add a vibrant blue color and a fruity flavour to your drinks. The blue raspberry-flavoured liqueur might also be an option, but it still contains some alcohol, so be on the lookout for that.
  • Blue butterfly pea flower tea. Blue butterfly pea flower tea is a natural way to add a blue hue to your drinks. The colour changes based on the pH level, so you can experiment with adding citrus to see different shades of blue and purple.
  • Blueberry juice. Blueberry juice is another option that can provide a natural blue colour. It might not be as intense as artificial colours, but it can still add a pleasing blue tint.
  • Spirulina. Spirulina is a natural blue-green algae that can be used to colour drinks naturally. Be cautious with the amount, as too much can affect the taste.
  • Blue food colouring. This might be the easiest answer to how to make a non-alcoholic drink blue. If you have regular blue food colouring, you can mix it in sparingly to achieve the desired color. Remember, a little goes a long way.
  • Blue ice cubes. Freeze water with a few drops of blue food colouring to create blue ice cubes. As the ice melts, it will gradually add a blue tint to your drink.
  • Blue jelly. Make a blue-flavoured jelly and cut it into cubes. Add these cubes to your drinks for both colour and flavour.

When using these alternatives, start with a small amount and adjust to achieve the desired colour without compromising the taste of your drink. Keep in mind that natural options may not be as vibrant as synthetic ones, so it might take some experimentation to find the perfect balance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

They can be! Just make sure every ingredient is completely alcohol-free, especially anything blue curaçao-flavoured. Blue curaçao syrup is the booze-free option you want here, while the traditional liqueur contains a bit of alcohol.

Think sweet, citrusy and distinctly orange-flavoured. It gives mocktails that signature tropical blue hue along with a bright citrus note, without the alcohol found in blue curaçao liqueur.

It depends on the recipe. Still drinks and punch bases can often be mixed a few hours ahead and kept chilled, but save anything sparkling until just before serving so it stays nice and fizzy. Add ice and garnishes at the last minute too.

No booze, plenty of blue and absolutely no reason to be subtle about it.

  • Getting the blue hue: Blue curaçao syrup is an easy alcohol-free shortcut, while butterfly pea flower tea, blueberries, spirulina, food colouring and even blue ice cubes can do the trick.
  • Tropical favourites: The Blue Lagoon, Blue Hawaiian, Blue Dolphin and Blue Shark Mocktails bring holiday vibes with bright citrus, pineapple, coconut and blue curaçao syrup. For a crowd, the Blue Hawaiian Party Punch takes that tropical energy pitcher-size.
  • Fresh and fruity: Try a Blue Shoe Mocktail, Blue Sparkler Mocktail, Blueberry Mocktail with Mint & Lime, Blueberry Mojito Mocktail or Blue Raspberry Lemonade for refreshing fruit-forward options.
  • For something a little different: Colour-Changing Magic Lemonade transforms from blue to purple, while the Coconut Cream Blue Raspberry Slushie goes frozen and creamy. The Blue Afternoon Highball keeps things light and tall, and the Virgin Blue Margarita delivers a citrusy Margarita-inspired twist.
  • Go deep blue: The Deep Blue Ocean Mocktail combines butterfly pea tea, dark berry juice and blue curaçao syrup for the most dramatic shade of the bunch.
